Battle of the Buds: Jabra Elite Active 65t VS Samsung Galaxy Buds

All promise to be the best wireless earbud experience, some offer better specs than others, but how is one supposed to know which headphones keep up to their promises? Currently, on the market are two wireless earbuds that say they are truly wireless and will give you an fantastic experience while wearing them. Let’s dive in a see how the two compare against each other, what is similar, and which is worth your money.

Jabra Elite Active 65t

Ever since the Apple Airpods made their mark on the wireless earbud market, they’ve been dominating, and Jabra wanted to change that. They introduced the Jabra Elite Active 65t, which retails at $190. The headphones offer comfortable design and a simple operating system. The earbuds come with three different sized ear tips to help fit into anyone’s ear. They don’t come with wings or fins to help keep them in place, but the design is secure enough to stay put in your ear. The tips offer a tight seal, which is crucial if you want a good bass response from your headphones.

The headphones come with an IP56-rated design which makes them both splash-resistant and dust-resistant. The sweat-resistance in the Jabra Elite Active 65t makes them perfect for even the sweatiest runners, ensuring they will survive all your gym routines. They come equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, which helps create a more stable wireless connection with fewer dropouts. The headphones also have a backward compatible so that they can connect to later Bluetooth models as well.

The Jabra Elite Active 65t has a noise-isolating feature that makes them passively seal out any ambient noise. The headphones also have a safety feature called HearThrough transparency that you can customize in the Jabra Sound+ app. The technology allows you to pick how much sound you want to be leaked into your headphones while wearing them. The app also has features that will enable you to change the sound profile for music, so if you want a different treble and bass, you can make it to your liking.

They have a sidetone feature that you can control, which will allow you to hear your voice during calls, but you can quickly turn it off. The sound with the headphones is excellent as well. They are made to work well in loud places, and even with the default mode in place, the sound still had a boost and sounded rich.

The headphones come with a 5-hour battery life, which is expected with more wireless earbuds. They come with a charging case and with a quick 15-minute charge you also get an additional 1.5 hours of juice out of your headphones. The charging case comes with a rubbery finish, similar to the earbuds, which will protect it from the elements.

Samsung Galaxy Buds

Similar to Jabra, Samsung wanted to spring on the Apple Airpod bandwagon and introduced their version of a truly wireless headphone with the Samsung Galaxy Buds. The earbuds retail for $130, so slightly less expensive than the Jabra Elite Active 65t. The headphones do pair with other devices that aren’t Samsung if that is a concern. There are some features though, like the Automatic Sync and Ambient Aware Mode, that only work with an Android device that runs on Android 5.0 or higher.

The headphones feature an Ambient Aware mode that allows sound to sneak into the earbuds, which offers you a better awareness of your surrounds. The headphones do feature a noise-isolating feature, but it doesn’t work as well as the ones that come with Jabra, and that could be due to the fit of these headphones. The Samsung Galaxy Buds come with an IPX6 water-resistant, meaning they are splash and sweat-resistant but cannot submerge in water. If you’re a heavy sweater and use the gym a lot, these headphones will stand up to even your most prolonged routine.

They come with three different sized silicone ear tips and a small fin that helps keep the earbuds securely in your ear. The different size of tips should help give you a tight seal that will also help minimize the background noise around you. The headphones come with tap control. You can tape the headphones to pause or play a track, skip a track, and adjust the volume. You can also program the headphones to a setting that works better your you. The headphones also come with an auto-pause feature, but it only works if you pull both headphones out, not a single bud.

If you’re looking for exceptional sound with your headphones, these might not be the ones for you. The headphones don’t offer a ton of bass, but there is some presence boost in the treble that makes the sound bright. AKG is responsible for the sound with these headphones, but the Jabra Elite Active 65t does have a better sound option. The call quality for the headphones is good, but  some background sound does leak through to the call.

The headphones offer a battery life of 6 hours, which is excellent for a wireless earbud. They also come with a charging case that is a little bit on the smaller side, so some may love it while others can potentially lose it easier. The headphones can also be charged with a USB-C cord or on any Qi-enabled wireless charging pad. They can even be charged on one of the backs of the new Samsung Galaxy S10 model phones since they offer a new feature called PowerShare.

Final Thoughts

Here are our final thoughts on the two earbuds. The Jabra Elite headphones offer a better sound, call, and fit quality then the Samsung Galaxy buds. With that said, the Jabra headphones also come at a more significant price tag, where the Galaxy buds are a little more affordable. Both headphones offer essential features like sweat-resistance, noise-isolating technology, and good battery life. If sound quality is your most significant thing when it comes to a wireless headphone, the Jabra takes the ball on that one. Something about the AKG technology lacks with the Galaxy buds, and you won’t get as rich of a sound with them. The Galaxy buds are great for charging options, especially since you can use another cellphone for a quick charge. It is a let down though that some features only work if you have an Android device.

Both headphones offer a good, tight fit, that is comfortable for long periods. When it comes to choosing between the two, Jabra is an excellent headphone with a lot of great features, but they also come with a hefty price tag. The Samsung Galaxy buds are decent and have everything you need at a reasonable price, but you are sacrificing some luxury quality for them.
